In certain circumstances, you may have the opportunity to teach at a high school. These position are limited to certain regional areas and will require you to be very flexible with your location preferences if you prefer to have such an assignment.

Where will I live?

Almost all our ALTs live in their own private apartments. We provide through assistance in the search process for an economical and convenient apartment, and act as a guarantor to secure a place to live. ALTs are responsible for the move-in costs, furnishings, rent and utility charges each month. The set up costs fro an apartment ranges from 380,000 JPY (Tokyo or other urban areas) to 200,000 JPY (suburban or rural areas) and monthly rent ranges from 50,000 JPY (rural) to 90,000 JPY (urban). While some apartments may be listed as “Internet ready” this does not always mean that there is immediate internet access. It may take up to a month after applying for you to be able to log on.
